BOE Midstream’s Flagship Crude-by-Rail Facility Achieves Major Milestone: Loads 1,000th Unit Train

Denver, CO and Dickinson, ND | On August 21, 2014, Denver-based midstream energy company BOE Midstream (“BOE”) successfully loaded and shipped the 1,000th unit train from its Bakken Oil Express Rail Terminal in Dickinson, ND.  This achievement, representing the movement of roughly 70 million barrels of crude oil, is an important milestone for the 3-year-old crude-by-rail facility. BOE also owns LL Terminals, LLC; BOE South and BOE Pipeline, LLC.

When operations began on November 3, 2011, Bakken Oil Express Rail Terminal was only the second facility in the region. Today, it has grown into the largest of 11 unit train facilities serving the area by almost any measure.

The facility is capable of loading up to three unit trains per day, with the ability to simultaneously load two unit trains and stage multiple trains on site for maximum efficiency. Currently, it offers crude oil operational storage capacity of 642,000 barrels, which will increase to nearly 892,000 barrels with a new storage tank projected to be online by mid-2015. With a location along the BNSF Southern Main Line, it gives producers and other shippers access to end-user markets on the East, West, and Gulf Coasts of the US.

Says BOE CEO Ed Guay, “We’re really proud of this milestone because it shows the trust and confidence our shippers and business partners have put in us. As they continue to grow, we’re determined to grow with them, increasing our capabilities to deliver safe, flexible, efficient transport solutions for crude oil by rail.”
